WALDORF, MD - June 15, 2012 - Recently, students at Huntingtown High School received certification in financial literacy after completing the Community Bank of Tri-County Financial Scholars Program. Community Bank of Tri-County has made the program available to high schools in Calvert, St. Mary's and Charles counties as part of an initiative to make innovative financial education available to all students. This web-based program uses the latest in new media technologies - video, animations, 3-D gaming, avatars, and social networking - to bring complex financial concepts to life for today's digital generation.
"It is great to have these resources," said Mr. Rick Weber, Principal of Huntingtown High School. Mr. Weber went on to express that "This program provides practical, hands-on experience that is critical in today's world."
"Jennifer Vallecanas, student at Huntingtown High School, agreed that financial literacy is important. "The EverFi program was really fun and it was nice to use technology to help learn a subject," she said. "This gives you a step up in life, once you get out of college."
Community Bank of Tri-County has partnered with EverFi, Inc. to bring this interactive financial management program to every public high school in the tri-county region, at no cost to the schools.
"Financial literacy is something that we strongly believe in at Community Bank," said Rebecca Henderson, Senior Vice President for Community Bank of Tri-County. "By partnering with Everfi, we hope to give students some insight in to the future and help them make better decisions as they move forward."
The 10-unit course offers six hours of programming aimed at teaching, assessing and certifying students in a variety of financial topics including credit scores, insurance, credit cards, student loans, mortgages, taxes, stocks, savings, 401k's and other critical concepts that map to national financial literacy standards.
