FRIDAY FOCUS: The ARC Central Chesapeake Region (CCR)

The Arc Central Chesapeake Region (CCR) serves children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families within the Chesapeake Region. The Arc CCR provides programs and services for all ages, at any stage of life – helping individuals become fully included in the community where they live. This week, we caught up with Jonathon Rondeau, CEO of The Arc Central Chesapeake Region, to learn about their upcoming events and appreciate one of their favorite moments.
Q: Tell us about your organization (who you serve, what you do, etc.)
The Arc Central Chesapeake Region provides comprehensive programs, services and advocacy for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities over the arc of their life. The Arc is committed to providing people with disabilities the opportunity to live, work, play and fully participate in the world around them. The Arc Central Chesapeake Region provides services in Anne Arundel, Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties and employs over 350 staff.
Q: What is your favorite “moment” (example of how your organization helped)?
Direct Support Professionals (DSP) are the backbone of our organization.  They focus on talents and strengths of the person, help find employment that is challenging, rewarding and fair in compensation, and help match people with identified business needs of the employer. Take Joselyn for example, she loves to sew and has created her own business.
Joselyn has enjoyed expanding her love of sewing into her own Etsy business and keeping up with fashionable trends via Instagram. Her motivation comes from studying different patterns and fashions and knowing she can do it herself. She promotes her business through social media platforms and Etsy, Joselyn Dream. Making customers happy with her custom designs makes her happy and gives her inspiration for future projects. Many of her ideas come from her dreams, hence her company name, she draws her designs, and finds ways to improve older designs. Working from home has given her the flexibility to be creative and expand her business in 2019 with the hopes of being her own boss!
Q: What is your biggest challenge?
We are always looking for qualitied Direct Support Professionals. We have a 36% vacancy rate. These positions are critical to our organization and the people we support.
Q: Are there any upcoming events?
