Hospice of Charles County, Inc. supports the terminally-ill spiritually and emotionally to let people know they are not alone. They provide medical attention to manage the pain, as well as care and friendship to those suffering. The Hospice House is the only all-hospice, acute care, inpatient medical facility in Charles County, and provides a home-like experience for all patients with unlimited visiting hours. Catch up on this week’s Friday Focus with Brandon Jones, Chief Executive Officer, to learn more about Hospice of Charles County.
Q: Tell us about your organization (who you serve, what you do, etc.)
Hospice of Charles County, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to ensure terminally-ill
patients are able to make the most of each day, on their own terms. Through effective pain and symptom
management by skilled clinicians coupled with emotional and spiritual support teams, our patients and families are able to enjoy each other fully during the last moments of life.
Q: What is your favorite “moment” (example of how your organization helped)?
Because we get so attached to our patients and their families, we tend to have many "favorite moments." As Chief Executive Officer, I am always touched when I hear from families on how much more time they felt they were able to spend with their loved one while in hospice. Also, seeing those very positive notes on social media and the generous support we often receive from those families, because they had such an invaluable experience with us, is so refreshing!
Q: What is your biggest challenge?
Our biggest challenge is always financial; we want to serve everyone regardless of socio-economic standing and we want to maintain our fiscal viability as a business. Operating an inpatient facility is challenging financially and requires significant support from donors, more collaboration with providers to get referrals quicker and increasing opportunities of awareness amongst those special populations with a different viewpoint of end-of-life care.
Q: Are there any upcoming events?
We will be planning for our next big fundraiser; our Annual 5K Walk/Run in April 2018. More to come!
Q: How can people get involved with your organization?
We have a strong team of volunteers but we can never have enough. I encourage you to express interest in
volunteering with Hospice of Charles County. We need volunteers for patient care support, administrative
support, facility support and a list of other needs. If you're not the volunteering type, you can always donate! Contact us to learn more.
