Calvert Hospice provides for the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of patients who are facing terminal illnesses. Hospice care is there for you through it all – to help make sure the patient and family can enjoy lasting “moments” together in comfort versus stress. The Burnett Calvert Hospice house, also known as “the house that love built” supports residents who require more skilled care then those in-home can provide. This week, we met with Amanda Peterson, Communications and Volunteer Coordinator, to learn more about Calvert Hospice.
Q: Tell us about your organization (who you serve, what you do, etc.)
Calvert Hospice cares for those in our county who have a terminal illness with a life expectancy of six months or less. We offer our patients a team of experienced, compassionate professionals who have a true passion for hospice. Patients are cared for wherever they call home. Each patient has access to a physician, nurse, social worker, chaplain, home health aide, volunteer and bereavement counselor.
Q: What is your favorite “moment” (example of how your organization helped)?
We specialize in making the most of every moment for our patients and their family members, whether that is helping manage a difficult situation, making arrangements for patients to travel or attend special family functions, helping patients plan their own funeral services, or simply providing a peaceful presence.
Q: What is your biggest challenge?
Each year, the Burnett Calvert Hospice House requires at least $250,000 in raised funds to maintain operations. We are always looking for businesses and individuals who want to partner with us to help raise these funds.
Q: Are there any upcoming events?
Our Shoppe for Hospice will be cashed mobbed by Community Bank in April 2019. Our Culinary Event at Running Hare Vineyard will be held in May 2019. Visit our website for more upcoming events.
Q: How can people get involved with your organization?
We’re always looking for volunteers to sit with patients, help in the office and work in our Shoppe for Hospice. Donations are welcome – you can give on our website at https://calverthospice.org
. Like us on social media and share our posts! Attend our fundraising events and bring your friends. Tell friends and family to call us if they think they qualify for hospice care.
