Are you on Facebook? Twitter? LinkedIn?
Social networking websites like these let you connect, engage, share and keep in constant touch with friends new and old. But they can also attract today’s new breed of Internet con artists, scammers, identity thieves, stalkers and other digital villains craving after your personal information.
How secure are your social networks? In large measure, it’s up to you!
Be aware of — and keep current with — the privacy policies of the sites you use. Did you read the policy and terms of service before you signed up? Do you know what you agreed to? Even if you read everything carefully (and most people don’t!), remember that policies can change after you create your account. Check back on occasion.
Privacy settings are the key to determining how much of your information becomes public. Be sure you understand the settings; don’t “give away” sensitive information.
